Quick summary

• We collect only the data needed to run the app and remember your preferences.
• We do not sell your personal data.
• You can use most features without creating an account.
• If you sign in with Google, we receive basic account details (name, email, profile image) from Google.

What data we collect

1. Account data (only when you sign in)

If you use Google sign-in, we receive your name, email address, and profile image so we can create and maintain your account.

2. Jurisdiction selections and preferences

We store the jurisdictions you select so your feed stays relevant. If you are signed out, this is stored in your browser. If you are signed in, this can also be saved to your account.

3. Location data (optional)

We only use your location if you tap Use my location. It is used to suggest nearby jurisdictions and county context. Before the lookup, we round your coordinates to about 100 meters and send only those rounded coordinates to the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder. We do not store them.

4. Email settings and delivery

If you turn on email reminders or the weekly digest, we keep your email settings with your account and a short record of each email we send so we never send the same one twice.

5. Technical data

Like most websites, we collect basic technical data such as browser type, device info, request logs, and security/session data needed to keep the service running.

How we use data

• Show local meetings and local-buzz content for your selected jurisdictions.
• Save your preferences across sessions and devices (when signed in).
• Secure accounts, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot reliability issues.
• Improve feature quality and performance.

When data is shared

We share data only when needed to provide core functionality, for example:

• Google, for sign-in. We keep your name, email and profile image, not Google's access tokens.
• Resend, which delivers the emails you choose to receive (it receives your email address and the message).
• The U.S. Census Bureau geocoder, which receives rounded coordinates when you use location.
• Cloudflare, which hosts and secures the site and provides visitor analytics without cookies or cross-site tracking.
• Public government and news sources, from which we read meeting and news content (we send them nothing about you).

We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or data brokers.

Your choices

• You can use the app without signing in.
• You can clear selected jurisdictions at any time in the header picker.
• You can update saved choices from Preferences.
• You can delete your account at any time from Preferences. This removes your account, saved places, presets, email settings and email records.
• You can revoke location access in your browser settings if you no longer want location-based suggestions.

How long we keep data

• Account data: until you delete your account.
• Sign-in sessions: until they expire; expired sessions are deleted nightly.
• Records of emails sent: 180 days.
• News items we collected: one year. Public meeting records are kept as a civic record.

If we materially change how data is handled, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above.
